The Book of Wonders was filled with action, mystery, magic and of course,
wonders. It was about two kids, Zardi and Rhidan, whose sister and father were
in BIG danger. Rhidan was adopted so they ventured to find his birth family to
help save his new family.

I liked a sailor character who acted like a pirate but
was just pretending. He was really a nice guy. I also liked his mom who was a
medicine woman and a genie. She told them each their future. I enjoyed the book
and it kept my attention. But the end seemed to slip away and not really end,
making me want to read more.

Look what came in the post today! A shiny, finished copy of The Book of Wonders. I’m not ashamed to say that I had a little tear in my eye. It was amazing to finally hold a finished copy in my hands. The end of a journey and the beginning of another one!

The Book of Wonders is a really, really good book. Do not judge the book by the cover which looks pretty
boring because it is a really good book.

The story is exciting and suspenseful. The book has great characters, including Zardi who is the main
character. She is a strong and an adventuresome girl on an adventure in a fantastical new world in an effort to rescue her sister from almost-certain death. The story is cleverly woven and requires the reader to travel through time and space as well as decipher some of the “mysteries” of the plot. I highly recommend this book for boys and girls ages 8-12.

Hobbitsies Review

Okay, The Book of Wonders by Jasmine Richards is a seriously awesome
middle grade novel about fantasy and adventure and it’s got pirates, boats,
magic, a loyal best friend, and a seriously brave female main character.

The Book of Wonders is the type of book I would have absolutely
devoured in middle school, and I’m glad that still holds true today! As an avid
fan of Tamora Pierce, I am all about the awesome and strong female characters in
fantasy settings, so Zardi was like a breath of fresh air compared to some of
the wishy-washy protagonists we read about today.

What I also loved about The Book of Wonders (besides the awesome new
world Richards introduced us to) is how jampacked it was with stuff. There was
not a down moment for Zardi – something was always happening, she always had a
goal to work towards, and that made it very interesting for me. There were never
any moments where I wanted to skip ahead.

Seriously, The Book of Wonders is middle grade, but I think it will
certainly appeal to any lover of fantasy. Zardi, even though she’s only thirteen
years old, came off as much older and more mature. The Book of Wonders
is an exciting story of a girl on a quest to save her family and I definitely
recommend it.
